Order to Kill by Kyle Mills

Happy Book Pub Day to Kyle Mills’ Order to Kill!!!

(Pic from Amazon.com)

Order to Kill is the next installment of Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series.

The blurb:

In the next thrilling novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series, the anti-terrorism operative heads to Pakistan to confront a mortal threat he may not be prepared for. In fact, this time he might have met his match.

Mitch Rapp is used to winning.

But in this follow-up to #1 New York Times bestselling The Survivor, the CIA operative finds himself chasing false leads from continent to continent in an effort to keep Pakistani nukes from falling into the hands of terrorists. Together with friend and colleague Scott Coleman, Rapp struggles to prevent the loss of these lethal weapons, particularly because Russia is also interested in the nukes, though not for the same reason as Rapp and Coleman.

Soon, it becomes alarmingly clear that the forces in Moscow are bent on fomenting even more chaos and turmoil in the Middle East, and Rapp must go deep into Russian territory, posing as an American ISIS recruit. There, he uncovers a plan much more dangerous and insidious than he ever expected, one that could have far-reaching and catastrophic consequences.

Written with breathless tension and heart-pounding action, Mitch Rapp’s latest adventure is as timely and provocative as ever.

Kyle Mills has done it again, and continues Vince’s legacy with another astounding Mitch Rapp novel. We (the fans) have truly been blessed with Mills, as he was the author that was selected to continue the series. He nailed Vince’s voice in The Survivor, and with Order to Kill, he has taken the series into his own hands and has made it his own, all the while staying true to Vince’s legacy.

MITCH RAPP IS BACK!

American Assassin is a go … Again

Well, it looks like the “American Assassin” movie is a go … AGAIN!

The Hollywood Reporter announced a director today. You can read the full report here.

While this is very exciting news, it leaves me with the “been there, done that” feeling. This movie, that CBS Films at the moment owns the rights to, was supposedly going to start shooting in the fall of 2013. It seems, after Vince’s passing, everything stopped and nothing was being done. Ask for an update, none were ever given. So, CBS Films had until the end of this April to get things moving, or the rights would have returned to the Flynn Estate. Well, it looks like they decided to proceed in making the movie.

So, while I AM excited for Mitch Rapp to finally being on the big screen, I am unfortunately not jumping for joy.

Summer Is Over

Well, it was spring, and then it was summer, then all of a sudden it was Labor Day, and now it’s chilly and the leaves are a changing and falling again. Summer is over. Now, I’m not too upset by this because fall is my favorite season. I love watching the leaves change and fall. I love the crisp and chilly, but not too cold, air. It’s the best. But, it is always a double edge sword because winter lurks right behind fall. And winter lasts forever. FOREVER!

Lots of exciting things coming the next couple months. I have started my countdowns:

48: Halloween
74: Thanksgiving & Black Friday
103: Christmas

The biggest thing is the release of “The Survivor” on 10-6-15 (23 DAYS!!!!!!) which is the next Vince Flynn Mitch Rapp novel by Kyle Mills. Beyond excited. There is also a National Book Release Event at Saint Thomas Academy on that Tuesday night in which I am also very excited for.

In July, I started playing around with making little videos for “The Survivor”, in which I started a Youtube channel. I don’t have much content up there yet, and not sure what I will do in the future, but for right now, I am having fun making these little videos, and I also put up a video on my journey to the MN State Fair this year.

I know technically we have a little more time being officially summer, but Hello Fall, I’ve missed you 🙂

Mitch Rapp Is Back

So, earlier this week, I finally finished my ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy) of The Survivor by Kyle Mills, who has taken over the series since Vince Flynn passed away 2 years ago. I meant to start it sooner, but I wanted to re-read The Last Man before starting The Survivor, and I had a minor setback with being sick last week.

And I wanted to take my time with it, meaning I didn’t want to read it in 2 days or less, even though I could. I just didn’t want to rush it, since it wasn’t Vince (except Chapter 1) and I felt that I couldn’t just get lost in the story, but needed to pay attention to the characters and the story, and all that jazz.

And let me tell you, Kyle Mills has done an incredible job. INCREDIBLE.

If I hadn’t been paying attention, and didn’t know that Vince didn’t write it, I may not have guessed it. Mills has done his research and knows Rapp, and the other characters, inside out. He has captured Vince’s voice.

Mills has taken over the series, making it his own, yet staying true not only to Vince Flynn, but to his characters, and more importantly to his fans.

After Vince passed, many fans would ask me over on VinceFlynnFans twitter if someone would be taking over the series, if I wanted someone to take over the series, or made the comment that they wanted someone to take over the series. At that time, I was against it, I didn’t want the series to continue. I felt that it wouldn’t be Vince’s voice. Yet, last year, shortly after Vince Flynn Day (to be exact), it was announced that Kyle Mills would be taking over. As soon as I saw that email, I got really excited and had a huge grin on my face. Even though the previous year I didn’t want it to continue, and I actually had never heard of Kyle. So, I started to do some research on him. The monthly VF email newsletter started doing Q&A with him. And one of the questions was what books of his to read that are similar to Vince, and one of the suggestions was Fade, so that night I got the kindle edition. And I read it. And I loved it. Months passed, and more Q&A’s made me excited. He was doing tons of research, becoming so familiar with the Rapp series in and out (he was already a Rapp fan). I knew he was the man for the job.

Flash forward to this year. He finished writing the book. The ARCs started coming out. Over at vinceflynn.com you can sign up to become a Mitch Rapp Ambassador. If you become an ambassador, you will receive an ARC. New ambassadors are picked every month until October. So if you are a Vince Flynn / Mitch Rapp fan, head on over and sign up (if you haven’t already).

I got my copy on Wed. I was so excited. And it helped take my mind off of being sick (damn kidney stone). And even though I had my copy, I was jealous of those that already started reading or even already finished their copies. I just couldn’t focus enough to read.

Anywho….

I started it. And finished it. In about 4 days.

AMAZING

There are tears. There are cheers.

I can’t wait until October when ALL the fans will be able to read The Survivor. I guarantee all Rapp fans will love it! 100%

Thank you Kyle Mills, for bringing Mitch Rapp back!

And of course thanks to the best in the business: to everyone at Emily Bestler Books, Atria Books, Simon & Schuster, David Brown, and to the Flynn Family.

Mitch Rapp Lives On….

Attention all Vince Flynn fans: today we received a very special announcement, the Mitch Rapp series will continue on. Here’s the announcement in full from the Official Vince Flynn website, which can be found here:

VINCE FLYNN’S MITCH RAPP SERIES WILL CONTINUE; THE SURVIVOR TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR 2015
Monday, June 23, 2014

The Vince Flynn Estate, along with Emily Bestler, Senior VP and Editor-in-Chief of Emily Bestler Books are excited to announce the decision to continue the Mitch Rapp series.

Bestler, who was Vince Flynn’s only editor throughout his entire career and whose imprint is a division of Simon & Schuster’s Atria Books, signed a three book deal with 47-year-old New York Times bestselling author Kyle Mills.

Mills was first published in 1997 and has penned 13 thrillers, most notably Fade and The Ares Decision.

Mills will complete The Survivor, the book Flynn was writing at the time of his death on June 19, 2013, and then write two additional Mitch Rapp novels. The Survivor is tentatively scheduled to release in the fall of 2015.

“I’m really honored to have been asked to continue the Mitch Rapp series,” Mills said, “Vince was a great guy who helped me out in my career and as a diehard Rapp fan, I know how devastated his readers are.  They’re big shoes to fill, but I’m looking forward to the challenge of continuing an iconic thriller character.”

“Vince and Mitch Rapp are so beloved by readers,” Bestler said, “It’s wonderful that we’ve found just the right partner to uphold the legacy of both.”

“To Vince’s wonderful fans, thank you for your love, support and patience, ” Vince’s widow, Lysa Flynn said, ” Vince was very proud of his team and we are confident that Kyle Mills will be a great addition. God bless and keep the faith!”

Pocket Books will be the paperback publisher of all three books, which will also be available from Simon & Schuster Audio and from Simon & Schuster UK in the UK, Australia, India and New Zealand.

Even though, honestly, I am still a little hesitant about the series being continued on without Vince (just because it won’t be his voice), it sounds like Kyle Mills has everyone’s blessings, and I welcome him with open arms. It sounds like he is a huge Rapp fan as well, so I know he won’t let us fans down. I am so excited!!!

I haven’t read any of Kyle Mills’ novels though, but will definitely be checking them out.

This has been a GREAT day with the BEST news!!!

My Writing Influences/Book Series That I Love: Part Two

This part two are the series that are my current obsessions, continuing chronologically (except for the last one).

Murder, She Wrote series by Donald Bain & “Jessica Fletcher”     I first discovered this series in October 2000. I found myself in Waldenbooks (does anyone remember this bookstore? it was my favorite), and I was looking at the Halloween display (I have a serious obsession with Halloween and Halloween related things) and came across the MSW book Trick or Treachery. Murder, She Wrote is one of my favorite tv shows, so I thought how cool, I need to check out this book. Loved it. Rest is history. Well over 20 books and counting, with the next being due out April 4th (squeeeee). My favorite ones are when they are located in Cabot Cove.

Murder-by-Month series by Jess Lourey     If I didn’t decide to buy a Kindle, I may never have discovered this fantastic author and series! I am SO glad I did. Jess is from MN, her books are set in MN, and they have the best titles ever (May DayJune BugKnee High by 4th of July, etc). I strongly recommend this series if you enjoy good murder mysteries, small town USAs, fantastic and interesting characters, and Nut Goodies!

Scot Harvath series by Brad Thor     I came across Brad Thor on recommendation by fellow Vince Flynn fans. I am slowly working my way through the series, but am very much enjoying it. Scot Harvath is a badass! (I can only dream about how awesome a Mitch Rapp/Scot Harvath team up could have been!!) If you’re on twitter, you can follow Brad (@BradThor) and I suggest you do.

And saving the best for last…..my absolute favorite author and series…..ever…..

Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn     I was late in discovering Vince. Now, I had heard about him from time to time, being a fellow Minnesotan, but never really thought much about it (and boy I kick myself about that all the time). Honestly, I never thought it was a genre that I wanted to read or would even like (boy was I wrong). In 2008/2009 I learned of a common denominator (which I will be keeping personal). Shoot forward to 2010, when he was releasing American Assassin, I decided to hit one of the local book signings, which was on a Thursday. Never reading one of his books, never been to a book signing before, I didn’t know what to expect. Before the singing there was a little Q&A, and even though I felt a little confused, listening to him speak, was point blank amazing. Got to mention a few things when he was signing my book, and the rest is, simply put, history. It was an amazing feeling on several different levels. That Saturday, I went back to the bookstore, and picked up Term Limits and started reading it. And I couldn’t put it down. That Sunday, since I am pretty addicted to Twitter, and noticing that Vince didn’t have one, and there were no fan ones, I decided to create one (you can find it at @VinceFlynnFans). By Monday, I had the support of the publishing company. That was pretty cool. So I finished TL which to date is my favorite VF novel. And so I started in on the Mitch Rapp books, Transfer of Power which was my favorite of the Rapp series (until The Last Man came along). My goal was to read all of them before the following prequel Kill Shot was released. I almost made it. I cannot quite express how much I love the Mitch Rapp series enough. Vince had magic hands for sure. Not only writing a strong, badass, kickass, someone I would want in my corner, male character, but many strong women characters as well. Vince’s fans range from the young to the old, male and female. And they are the best fans out there. From when I created VFF to present day, I have never encountered any negative comments (like many other fan twitters do). And I definitely think a person’s fans really speak about that person! From fellow fans, I have discovered many other wonderful authors (bestsellers and indie) and have made so many wonderful connections, in which I owe to VF. He was more than just an author, but, in my opinion, one of he greatest humans to ever live. If you had the chance to meet him, talk to him, know him, you are a very lucky person. June 19th 2013 was a very hard day. This is the day we lost Vince Flynn. But his words live on… He lives on…

I like a lot of books. Many different genres. I still hope to continue to broaden my horizons, maybe even getting more into classic literature. I have a very large pile of books to get through, but it is ever growing.
